Keith Owens is the last of a group of five guys in the Cattleman’s club in Royal, Texas to have fallen to marriage and his four friends are joking with him about that as the book opens, because Keith has been selected as the member who picks the charity that will be benefit of a large check at the Cattleman’s Club Ball and Keith has picked the New Hope Battered Women’s Shelter, run by Andrea O’Rourke. Keith and Andrea were an item many years ago and the boys think Keith wants to pick up where they left off.
Joking aside, the boys begin to muse about who killed Eric Chambers (See “Her Lone Star Protector by Peggy Moreland). They believe Dorian Brady is the guilty party, but he has a solid alibi in Laura Edwards, who swears she’d been with Brady on that fateful day that Chambers was murdered.
The women at New Hope are delighted about the award from the Cattleman’s Club, but Andrea has reservations. She believes Keith is setting her up. She’s right. Keith relentlessly pursues her, ignoring all the attempts she makes at rebuffing him and in a moment of weakness she succumbs in his car and not to long after discovers she’s going to have a baby. In another moment of weakness, Andrea tells Keith about the baby and now he doubles his efforts to win her hand.
Meanwhile, Laura comes into the shelter. She tells Laura she’s afraid of Brady, that she’d lied, that Brady is actually the murderer. And now Brady is after them both.
This is an excellent addition to the Texas Cattleman’s Club series of romances in the Silhouette Desire series of Harlequin books. Wow, that was a mouthful or should I say, a sentenceful, but no matter how you say it, this was a very pleasant read.

*** HER LONE STAR PROTECTOR – TEXAS CATTLEMAN’S CLUB: THE LAST BACHELOR (Silhouette Desire, No. 1426)

When Rebecca Todman let herself into Eric Chambers” house to water and care for his plants, as she usually did, she didn’t expect to find him dead in the bathroom, strangled with his own tie. She knew instantly he was dead as death was no stranger to her. She’d seen her abusive husband up dead up close when he’d crashed their car. Then death had been good to her, ending the horrible way he’d treated her, but this time death made her a suspect.
P.I. Robert Cole is hired by the dead man’s boss at Westcott Oil to get to the bottom of the murder. However, it appears that Chambers had no enemies, so Rob goes after the only suspect he has, Rebecca. It doesn’t take long before he recognizes the signs of someone who had been abused. He knows first hand, because his father had beaten and abused him cruelly when he’d been a child, right up until Rob got big enough to almost kill him with his bare hands.
He finds himself falling for Rebecca, but he’s afraid that he has an inherited mean streak that will come out. She’s falling for him, but she’s afraid of all men. Will they eventually overcome their fears and get together? And while we wonder about that, there is a killer on the loose in this small Texas town.
Ms. Moreland filled her romance with just the right amount of tension to make sure her readers read the book in one sitting. I know, I did. It’s true, we’re given few clues as to who the killer is, but this is firstly a romance and the real suspense is if and when our hero and heroine will get together, and how will they overcome the obstacles, in this case their shared fears, that are conspiring against them.

I read this book as the begining of a series which turned out to be a waste of my time… Ms. Browning suckers one into reading the other books because this one was actually pretty good.
I’ll recommend this one but don’t bother on finishing the series, because the gulity party is so obivious that it hurts.

The exclusive members of the Cattleman’s Club in Royal, Texas suspect they have a rat name Dorian in their midst, one who they believe may have committed murder and framed his half brother for the crime. To complicate matters, the dirty, rotten, scoundrel, who they have let into their club, complains he is being harassed. Then the harasser, a petit bundle of femine fury, storms into the club in a very unlady like manner, full of invective.
The members persuade Jason Windover, one of their own who has not recently falling victim to marriage, to keep this meddling woman out of their affairs. They figure he is the best among them for this task, because one, he is ex-CIA and more than competent and two, he has sworn that he’ll never marry. He wants nothing more than a brief fling here and there.
Then he catches beautiful Meredith Silver slashing Dorian’s tires. Rather than arrest her and involve the club’s business with scandal, he takes her home and finds out that she’d been harassing Dorian because he’d promised to marry her younger sister, then he broke her heart and fled town with her life’s savings. This intrigues Jason even as he’s intrigued with Meredith, however the killer isn’t amused by their getting together and he blows up Jason’s home, our hero and heroine barely escape with their lives.
Now Jason is starting to get upset, he’s starting to feel very protective of Meredith as well in this romance that is a sure fire bet to keep you burning the midnight oil. Five stars from me for this one.

I enjoyed this book as part of the 6 book series, The Texas Cattlemans Club. If you dont have time to read long books, these are perfect as they are fairly quick reads, and enjoyable ones at that.

The third book in the Texas Cattlemans series, REMEMBERING ONE WILD NIGHT by author Kathie DeNosky is outstanding. If youve been reading the series and enjoying it, then dont miss this story.
It was New Years Eve and all Travis Whelan wants is to drink a beer, shower and go to bed. Yet when he arrives home in Royal, Travis is summoned to Daniel Sorrensons house to meet Jane Doe. Its quite a shock for Travis when he recognizes Jane as Natalie Perez, the woman hed had an affair with almost a year ago. But, thats not all the surprises Travis is in for. You see Natalie has a beautiful baby girl named Autumn who just happens to be Traviss daughter.
When Natalie sees the tall, dark, and handsome stranger come through the door everything comes flooding back. Hes Travis Whelan, the man whom she fell in love with and the man who broke her heart. Natalie discovered that Travis had lied about his identity and the fact that he was a wealthy man. But, one thing Natalie knows for sure; Travis will protect her and Autumn with his life.
Though Natalie regains only some of her memories, there are still some things that are fuzzy. Like who attacked her and tried to take her baby and why. Flashes of memory, hands reaching out to take Autumn haunt Natalie. Why cant she remember and why does she get all queasy when someone mentions doctors and hospitals? With the help of his friends, Travis plans to uncover whatever is going on and keep Natalie and their daughter safe. he still cant believe hes a father and is angry over the fact that Natalie never told him. Her prejudiced attitude against rich people could have something to do with her keeping him in the dark.
REMEMBERING ONE WILD NIGHT starts off with a bang and just keeps them coming. Travis and Natalie are intriguing characters with some history, not to mention a daughter. I loved watching their interaction, both of them fighting the strong sexual pull they felt each time they were together. And lets not forget Autumn. Now that little girl would steal anyones heart including her daddy. Interlaced in this sparkling romance is a thread of danger woven into the story perfectly. Why did someone try to kill Natalie and take her child? Can Travis find out before it all comes to a head?
Author Kathie DeNosky proves once again why she is a fast growing commodity in the world of romance. REMEMBERING ONE WILD NIGHT with its multifaceted characters, fast paced story, and passion on every page is definitely one for the keepers shelf. I look forward to the next installment of the Texas Cattlemans series but more importantly I cant wait for Ms. DeNoskys next book.

Eis que a série ganha um livro engraçado. Forrest reparou que todos os seus amigos, da equipe Alpha, estavam se casando ou apaixonados e ele… nada! Então, se deu conta de que havia prometido que se casaria com Bekcy, a amiga de infância, se ela estivesse solteira ao chegar aos 30 anos. A encrenca é que ele propôs casamento com a falta de sensibilidade típica dos homens e ficou surpreso ao ouvir que Becky não queria ser salva da “solteirice” por ele porque estava noiva de outro!!! Só restou a Forrest provar à amiga que era melhor que o noivo misterioso.
Curiosidade:
– Dentro da trama-mor, Anna está se adaptando ao emprego de garçonete e preocupada com os sobrinhos, que continuam desaparecidos.
– As peripécias de Becky e as estratégias de Forrest são ótimas!!! É o meu livro favorito da série!!!
